The guitar is a 6-stringed instrument that is widely used throughout western music. There exist three main kinds of guitars. The classic guitar, which has nylon strings and is used for classic music. A subtype of this is the flamenco guitar with a harder sound. The classic guitar is mainly played in a virtuous picking style
Then there is the western guitar using steel strings. It has different subtypes such as resonator guitars (dobro) and is played in a variety of technics like bottleneck, hawaian or fingerpicking.
The third kind of guitar is the electric variant, that also has steel strings but no resonator corpus. Here the vibrations of the strings are recorded by inductive measurement and then played through a speaker. Different pickups and preprocessing equipment allows for a great range of sounds. Steel stringed guitars are often played using a plectrum.
